Caretaker Die of Death guide: heal support tools, CarePad synergy with BonusPad, and clutch team-save timing. Tips verified July 2026. Tips verified July 2026.
−25 HP tradeoff, ~20 HP cone heals, and BonusPad synergy.
Caretaker Die of Death — cone healer with HP tradeoff
Caretaker Die of Death is the primary group heal Ability on the civilian roster. Equipping it reduces your max HP by 25, making you a priority target — in return, you splash a cone heal in front of you that restores roughly 20 HP total (10 instant + 10 over time) to everyone inside the hitbox.
Searchers landing on caretaker die of death want heal numbers, the CarePad synergy with BonusPad, and why many community abilities tier list boards rank Caretaker #1 after Fashionably Late (July 18, 2026).
This guide covers the −25 HP tradeoff, cone positioning, pad stacking, and why Killers must delete healers first. Compare Punch (C-tier stun: 25 damage, 3s stun, 40s CD) as a complementary peel tool.

Caretaker heal mechanics
Caretaker Die of Death is not a click-to-heal skill. Activation stops you in place and fires a large frontal cone. Allies must stay inside the splash — public lobbies often run away while you cast, whiffing the heal.
The −25 HP penalty applies passively while Caretaker is equipped. You are squishier even at full health, which is why voice callouts ("hold for heal") matter more here than for Dash mains.
| Stat | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Max HP tradeoff | −25 HP | Always on while Ability equipped |
| Instant heal | ~10 HP | Cone splash on cast |
| Over-time heal | ~10 HP | Cancelled if target takes damage |
| Total per cast | ~20 HP | Multi-target in cone |
| Cooldown | ~30 seconds | Verify HUD after patches |
| Cast behavior | Rooted channel | Hard mid-chase — pre-position |
Cone positioning and voice
Lead Caretaker Die of Death heals by body-blocking safe corners — graveyard gates on Grandma's Backyard, cubicle pockets in The HQ, or behind Block teammates.
Tell chased allies to stop sprinting for one second. The meme "why are you running from me?" exists because randoms dodge your cone accidentally.
CarePad synergy (Caretaker + BonusPad)
CarePad is the named synergy when Caretaker + BonusPad share your Deck. BonusPad alone places a breakable pad; with Caretaker, it becomes CarePad — a grouping tool that heals ~1 HP per second while allies stand on it (Killer can destroy the pad).
Post–Fashionably Late, BonusPad fell in many tier lists because pads are breakable — but CarePad still earns S-tier synergy credit for forcing pub squads to stack for your cone heals.
| Synergy | Required abilities | Why it wins |
|---|---|---|
| CarePad | Caretaker + BonusPad | Pad stacking groups allies for cone heals |
Setting CarePad routes
Drop CarePad on a strong loop exit, then cone heal the stack. Killers who ignore the pad lose tempo; Killers who break it force you to redeploy — have a backup loop.
Do not pad in open Baseplate — Killdroid explosives delete grouped civilians.
CarePad vs Loveshot lobbies
Ideal trios: one CarePad, one **Loveshot**, one mobility (Dash / Cloak). See the synergies hub for all named pairs.
Playing healer in Die of Death
Caretaker Die of Death mains win by keeping the team alive long enough for stun chains to fire — not by outrunning Pursuer forever.
- Do01Call heals before you root to cast
- Do02Heal between chases — HoT cancels on damage
- Do03Stack CarePad where cone can hit multiple allies
- Do04Hide −25 HP profile behind loops and Block
- Do05Expect Killers to tunnel you — path to strong vaults
Early round
Identify who rolled mobility vs peel. You heal; they stun. Do not facecheck the Killer with −25 HP.
Pre-place CarePad on the lobby's voted map meta loop before chase starts.
Mid round
Heal the second chase target, not the loudest — Killers swap after downs. Keep two healthy bodies for stun rotations.
In Double Trouble, split pads — one pad per Killer angle if possible.
Late round / LMS
Last survivor with Caretaker is weak — you need earlier team value. If you are LMS healer, pad a tight circle and save cone for after Killer whiffs.
Killers vs Caretaker
Smart Killers tunnel Caretaker Die of Death first — deleting heals collapses the squad faster than chasing Dash runners. Your −25 max HP penalty means one fewer M1 to down you; play as if every chase is lethal.
Harken rewards noise from ability spam — space Caretaker casts so you are not feeding Enrage every ~30 seconds. Badware splits teams with PC triangles; heal defenders on objective routes, not scattered runners mid-map.
| Killer | Anti-healer tip | Your answer |
|---|---|---|
| Hard M1 focus | Vault toward peel teammates | |
| Noise punishes ability spam | Heal only when Killer is committed elsewhere | |
| Traps cut pad zones | Move CarePad after Implement walls | |
| PC pressure splits team | Heal defenders near objectives | |
| Explosives punish stacks | Spread before cone — no grouped pad vs bots |
Timer extension and Evilness farm
Civilian wins often come from survival time, not wipes. Caretaker Die of Death heals that keep a body-blocker alive for five extra seconds on the exit choke extend the round and farm Evilness for the squad — often more valuable than topping full-HP runners mid-map.
In Double Trouble, split CarePad zones so one pad serves each Killer angle — grouped heals under two chases require voice or quick chat.
When Caretaker loses late game
Last-survivor Caretaker is weaker than mid-round team value — you lack bodies to peel during cone cast. If you lacked CarePad all game, hope a teammate drafted **SweetTooth** for selfish LMS sustain.
Caretaker Die of Death FAQ
How much HP does Caretaker heal? Roughly 10 + 10 in cone — 20 total if HoT completes without damage.
Why −25 HP? Balance tradeoff — you are easier to down if the Killer focuses you.
What is CarePad? Caretaker + BonusPad on the same Deck — see synergies and BonusPad.
Can I heal mid-chase? Technically yes, but rooting is risky — pre-position or peel first.
Is Caretaker worth it solo queue? Yes — pub teams need healers; use quick chat to call "stand still for heal".
Caretaker vs Loveshot heals? Loveshot is aim-gated burst from Revolver + Taunt; Caretaker is reliable AoE — run one of each in tryhard lobbies.
Does CarePad heal a lot alone? ~1 HP/sec on pad — value is grouping allies for cone splash, not pad sustain alone.
Best Caretaker map? Choke maps (Temple, HQ) where teams stack naturally — avoid open Baseplate pad stacks vs Killdroid.
